“We’re already here…” SeventhSight murmured, his eyes locked intensely on Eliana. Around us, Blackwood Cemetery lay suffocated by crumbling headstones and an eerie, expectant silence. “How will using my father’s soul help Erebus summon the Devourer?”
Eliana’s voice was barely a whisper, heavy with centuries of dread. “Because your father, Catalyst… was once a vessel for the Devourer’s essence, before he was killed by Erebus himself.”
Aria’s hand snapped to my arm, her grip trembling. “Do you think Erebus plans to resurrect him?”
My eyes locked onto SeventhSight’s. The air grew cold.
“Yes,” Eliana continued, the words hanging in the mist like a death sentence. “I believe Erebus intends to resurrect your father’s body and reunite it with the Devourer’s essence still lingering within his soul. If successful, he will become the Devourer’s living vessel on earth.”
I shuddered, imagining the true horror of the Devourer—a nightmare amalgamation of chitinous, bladed arachnid limbs bursting through reanimated, twisted flesh.
Aria stepped closer, her voice cracking. “What will happen to you, SeventhSight, if this occurs?”
Eliana’s eyes widened in alarm. “My research suggests a terrifying tether between you and your father’s darkness. If he becomes the vessel, Catalyst:
- Your powers will surge uncontrollably.
- Your soul will be permanently chained to the Devourer’s evil essence.
- You may become its next host if your father’s body fails.”
I reached out, grasping his hand tightly. “SeventhSight, will you still be you if this happens?”
“Do we still have time to stop him?” Aria pleaded, desperation in her eyes.
“Yes,” Eliana nodded urgently. “Erebus needs a rare lunar alignment. Tonight’s blood moon is the first phase, but he must complete three phases spanning three nights. If we interrupt the ritual during any phase, the spell will collapse.”
My grip on SeventhSight’s hand tightened. But before anyone could speak, a guttural, eerie chant began to echo off the mausoleums.

The Ambush
The fabric of reality splintered. A massive, holographic projection tore through the darkness, illuminating the cemetery in a sickly, pale light.
It was Erebus.
Even as a projection, his aura of elite, ruthless sophistication was suffocating. He wore a tailored black suit that mocked his former luxury, contrasting sharply against his pale skin and chiseled jawline. A menacing scar cut sharply above his left eyebrow, but it was his piercing, ice-blue eyes that paralyzed you. In his hand, he gripped an eerie, glowing blue staff that seemed to actively drain the life force from the air around us.
“The Catalyst’s father shall rise…” Erebus’s voice boomed, vibrating in our teeth. “He will unlock the Devourer’s path!”
From the jagged tears in the air, his cultists’ chants summoned forth a nightmare vanguard:
- Implings: Swarms of tiny, winged demons with razor claws and eyes aglow like embers.
- Shadeborn: Towering, humanoid silhouettes with faces like voids, their mere presence freezing the blood in our veins.
- Wraithwings: Ghostly, bat-like creatures whose shrieks threatened to shatter our minds.

The Counter-Strike
Aria didn’t hesitate. She threw her hands wide, and a brilliant blue Chronosphere exploded outward.
The temporal shield domed our group, keeping time linear for us while weaponizing it against the distortions outside. We watched the Implings age decades in seconds, their wings decaying to ash as they plummeted. The Shadeborn stumbled, their dark matter unraveling like shredded tapestries, while the Wraithwings shrieked before collapsing into nothingness under the crushing weight of accelerated time.
I seized the opening. My cybernetics whined with building power, my eyes blazing as I unleashed a Neurodisruptor Wave. The psychic shockwave blasted outward, violently severing the surviving conjurations’ mental tethers.
The remaining monsters imploded into digital-like dust. Left terrified and exposed, the cultists scattered. “The Order is betrayed! SeventhSight lives!” they wailed into the night.
The Necromancers
But two figures held their ground. Xandria and Thorne. Their eyes blazed with dark magic.
Erebus’s hologram sneered, tapping his glowing blue staff. “My most powerful servants will crush your insolence!”
Xandria and Thorne raised their staffs, their voices weaving together in foul harmony:
“Mordecai revenant… Animus mortis…”
The damp earth ruptured. Skeletons clawed through the dirt clutching rusted iron. Rotting corpses with sunken eyes hauled themselves from centuries-old graves.
SeventhSight charged. His hands erupted with pure dark energy, hurling devastating blasts that ripped through the undead horde like a scythe through wheat. Bone shattered like fragile porcelain; rotting flesh dissolved into swirling clouds of necrotic dust.
But Xandria laughed. She thrust her staff down, fusing the ruined corpses into a colossal Graveyard Golem. Beside her, Thorne conjured a swirling vortex of vengeful, mournful spirits that boxed us in.

The Graveyard War
The Frontline: Aria fought fiercely beside SeventhSight. She wielded chronomancy with lethal precision, trapping spectral entities in endless time loops, forcing them to relive their deaths until their ethereal bodies withered like autumn leaves.
The Rearguard: I vaulted over a crumbled tomb, launching myself directly at Xandria. My cybernetic fists collided with her dark-wood staff in a shower of sparks. I kept the pressure relentless, striking faster than she could cast, breaking her necromantic focus.
To my right, Eliana became a force of nature. She unleashed a torrential elemental barrage on Thorne. Searing flames danced across his robes, scorching black fabric and flesh. Jagged ice shards impaled his staff hand, shattering his concentration, before a final, blinding bolt of lightning struck his chest, launching him backward into an open grave.
I delivered a crushing, metallic uppercut to Xandria, sending her sprawling into the mud.
“No… Master Erebus… we fail…” Thorne gasped weakly.
Xandria’s eyes widened in sheer terror as our plan lay exposed. Behind them, Erebus’s face twisted in absolute fury. The glowing blue light of his staff flickered violently before his hologram snapped out of existence, taking the dark magic with it. The Golem collapsed into a heap of dirt.

The Aftermath
The graveyard lay in ruins—tombstones shattered, the earth permanently scarred.
SeventhSight stood victorious, his dark energy still sparking off his fingertips. Aria leaned against him, her chronomancy exhausted, but her eyes filled with profound relief.
I walked over to Eliana. She stared out at the carnage, elemental heat still radiating from her skin. “We’ve delayed doom,” she whispered into the chill night air. “But Erebus’s power grows with each passing night.”
“Then we need those artifacts before he does,” Aria said vigorously.
SeventhSight knelt by the fallen necromancers. From Xandria’s robes, he pulled a heavy, leather-bound journal filled with cryptic symbols. From Thorne, he retrieved a yellowed parchment map detailing hidden temples and forgotten ruins.
In the distance, the low, booming rumble of thunder echoed across the night sky—Kairos, sensing our resolve.
SeventhSight looked up from the map, his jaw set and voice perfectly calm. “Our quest begins.”
