The dark, damp chamber deep within the heart of Erebus’s fortress was a place of unspeakable horrors. The walls were made of cold, grey stone and the air was thick with the stench of mold and decay. A single, flickering light bulb hung from the ceiling, casting eerie shadows on the walls. In the center of the room, a lone figure lay strapped to a cold, metal table. This was the Carrionlord, her once beautiful face now twisted into a grotesque visage of terror and pain. Her long, red hair was matted and dirty, and her slender body was covered in cuts and bruises. She was hooked up to a series of machines that beeped and whirred softly, monitoring her vital signs. Standing over her was the imposing figure of Erebus, his tall, muscular body towering over the Carrionlord’s prone form. His piercing blue eyes were fixed intently on her face, his expression unreadable.
Thea watched from a computer screen on the wall, her face a mask of ambivalence. Erebus spoke, his voice low and commanding. “You will make my daughter stronger. Your sacrifice will not be in vain.” The Carrionlord struggled against the restraints that held her to the table, but they were too strong. She was trapped, unable to escape the fate that awaited her. She looked up at Erebus, her eyes wide with fear. “Please…don’t do this. I’ll do anything. Just don’t make me do this.” Erebus did not respond. He simply turned and walked away, leaving the Carrionlord to her fate.
Thea continued to watch, her expression unchanging. Erebus’s voice came from off screen. “Don’t worry, Thea. This will make you stronger. You will be able to protect yourself and those you care about.” Thea did not respond. She simply continued to watch, her eyes fixed intently on the scene before her.
The Carrionlord’s eyes rolled back in her head as Erebus’s machines began to do their work. Her body convulsed, her muscles tensing and relaxing in a rhythmic pattern. The machines beeped and whirred louder, monitoring her vital signs as they began to fluctuate wildly. Erebus watched, his eyes fixed intently on the Carrionlord’s face. He was a tall, imposing figure, his broad shoulders and muscular arms radiating an aura of power and authority. His piercing blue eyes were fixed intently on the Carrionlord, his expression unreadable.

Thea continued to watch, her expression unchanging. She was a mysterious figure, her face shrouded in shadows. Her eyes were fixed intently on the scene before her, her expression unreadable. She did not move, did not speak. She simply watched, her eyes fixed intently on the Carrionlord and Erebus.
The Carrionlord’s body arched off the table, her muscles tensing as the machines reached a fever pitch. The beeping and whirring grew louder, more insistent, and then suddenly stopped. The Carrionlord’s body fell back onto the table, her chest rising and falling with slow, shallow breaths. Erebus leaned forward, his eyes fixed intently on her face. He reached out, his hand brushing against her cheek. She was cold, her skin clammy to the touch. He straightened, his eyes fixed on the machines. They were silent, their work done.
Erebus turned to the computer screen, his eyes locking onto Thea’s. He spoke, his voice low and commanding. “Thea, are you ready?” Thea’s expression did not change, but her voice came through the speakers, cold and detached. “I am ready, Father.” Erebus nodded, his eyes never leaving Thea’s face. He turned back to the Carrionlord, his hands reaching out to her. He placed one hand on her forehead, the other on her chest. He closed his eyes, his face contorting with effort.
The air around him seemed to charge with energy, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end. The machines that had been silent only moments before began to beep and whir once more, their lights flashing as they monitored the energy that was building. Thea’s eyes seemed to glow with an otherworldly light, her face bathed in an eerie, pulsating energy. The Carrionlord’s body began to twitch, her muscles tensing as the energy built.

The energy reached a fever pitch, the air around Erebus crackling with power. The machines were beeping wildly, their lights flashing in a blur of color. Thea’s eyes were glowing with an intense, pulsating light, her face bathed in an eerie energy. The Carrionlord’s body was arched off the table, her muscles tensed as the energy built. And then, in an instant, it was over. The energy dissipated, the machines falling silent once more. Thea’s eyes returned to normal, her face bathed in the soft glow of the computer screen. The Carrionlord’s body fell back onto the table, her chest rising and falling with slow, shallow breaths. Erebus stood over her, his eyes fixed intently on her face. He reached out, his hand brushing against her cheek. She was cold, her skin clammy to the touch.
Erebus straightened, his eyes fixed on Thea’s face on the computer screen. He spoke, his voice low and commanding. “Thea, come to me. It is time for you to awaken.” Thea’s expression did not change, but her voice came through the speakers once more. “I am coming, Father.” The computer screen flickered and went dark, leaving Erebus alone in the room with the Carrionlord’s body.
Erebus stood alone in the room, the silence oppressive. He looked down at the Carrionlord’s body, his eyes lingering on her face. He had known her when she was alive, known her as Ereia, his daughter. She had been a beautiful, vibrant young woman, full of life and energy. But that had been before the Sons of Ishmael had gotten to her, before they had turned her into this…thing.
He turned away from the body, his eyes fixed on the door. Thea would be coming soon, and he had to be ready. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for what was to come. Thea was his daughter, his creation, and he loved her. But he also knew that she was dangerous, that she had the potential to destroy him and everything he had worked for.

The door opened, and Thea’s capsule slid out of the wall. It was a large, glass cylinder filled with a strange, pulsating liquid. The liquid drained out of the capsule, and the top slid open. Thea sat up, her eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. She was alive. Erebus looked at her, his eyes searching for any sign of the daughter he had once known. But there was nothing. She was gone, consumed by the machine. Thea swung her legs over the side of the capsule, her movements stiff and mechanical. She stood up, her eyes fixed on Erebus. She spoke, her voice cold and detached. “Father. I am ready.”
He spoke, his voice low and commanding. “Thea, you are ready to begin your training. You will be working with the Order of the Veil, a secret society that has been hiding in plain sight for centuries. They have an agreement with the Sons of Ishmael, and you will be working closely with them. I have…ties to the Sons of Ishmael. I will be leading them soon, and with your help, we will achieve great things. The Order will train you, teach you how to use your powers to further their goals. And you will be loyal to them, Thea. You will do as they say, without question. You will be their instrument of destruction, their key to unlocking a new world order. And when the time is right, you will help me lead the Sons of Ishmael to greatness.”
Thea listened, her expression unchanging. She did not ask questions, did not react. She simply listened, her eyes fixed on Erebus. When he finished speaking, she nodded. Her voice was cold and detached. “I understand, Father. I will do as you say.” Erebus nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. He reached out, his hand brushing against Thea’s cheek. She did not flinch, did not react. She simply stood there, her eyes fixed on Erebus.
And then it was done. Erebus dropped his hand, stepping back from Thea. He turned and walked away, leaving Thea alone in the room. Thea watched him go, her expression unchanging. She stood there for a moment, her eyes fixed on the door. And then she turned, walking out of the room and into her new life. The life of a weapon, a tool of destruction. The life of a monster.
