The dusk air clung to Blackwood Cemetery like a damp shroud, heavy with the weight of impending doom. Gravestones loomed around us like skeletal sentinels, casting long shadows in the fading light.

Aria leaned against SeventhSight, her slender frame exhausted, chronomancy-drained eyes locking onto his with relief after their narrow escape from the necromancers. I, Thea, stood beside them, my advanced senses still on high alert. Eliana gazed out upon the carnage of the necromancer battle, her elemental magic still simmering beneath her skin like dormant thunder.

“We’ve delayed doom,” Eliana whispered, “but Erebus’s power grows with each passing night…” Aria nodded vigorously, her eyes never leaving SeventhSight’s face. “We need those artifacts before he does.” SeventhSight’s gaze swept the necromancers’ lifeless bodies before producing two worn items from his belt:

  • Xandria’s cryptic journal
  • Thorne’s map

Suddenly, distant thunder rumbled across the darkening sky – not natural, but ominous drumbeats announcing Kairos’s arrival. The ground trembled beneath our feet as Kairos emerged from darkness, his figure blurring into four identical Nexarion bodies:

  • Kairos-Alpha stood tallest, eyes blazing yellow like embers, charging towards SeventhSight with dual katanas.
  • Kairos-Bravo crackled with energy, hands glowing blue-white, targeting me (Thea) with a devastating blast.
  • Kairos-Charlie unsheathed shorter blades, swift and deadly, engaging Aria in close combat.
  • Kairos-Delta loomed behind Eliana, massive fists clenched for a crushing blow – clearly his primary target.

SeventhSight drew his sword, its blade shimmering with ancient runes, as he faced Kairos-Alpha.
“Protect Eliana!” he shouted to us, but it was too late.

Kairos-Delta seized Eliana from behind, massive arms wrapping around her like a vice. Her elemental magic flared wildly, but Kairos-Delta’s Nexarion body absorbed the attack. Aria cried out in horror, distracted from her battle with Kairos-Charlie. Kairos-Charlie landed a glancing blow, sending Aria stumbling back. I unleashed a barrage of precise strikes against Kairos-Bravo, but his energy blasts forced me to dodge and weave. SeventhSight clashed with Kairos-Alpha, swords ringing out in deadly harmony:

  • Kairos-Alpha’s dual katanas sliced through air mere inches from SeventhSight’s face
  • SeventhSight’s ancient sword bit deep into Kairos-Alpha’s Nexarion armor, but didn’t slow him
Kairos-Delta dragged Eliana away into darkness, her desperate voice fading: “Stop Erebus…!”

SeventhSight instantly changed direction, sprinting towards Kairos-Delta to rescue Eliana. But Kairos-Alpha anticipated this move:

With a swift strike, Kairos-Alpha slammed his katana into SeventhSight’s shoulder armor, sparking off metal and sending SeventhSight crashing to the ground. SeventhSight’s vision blurred momentarily – Kairos-Delta escaped into darkness with Eliana. Aria rushed to SeventhSight’s side, her chronomancy stirring weakly to stabilize his wound. Meanwhile, I (Thea) seized this chance to attack Kairos-Alpha – unleashing a flurry of precise kicks and punches! Kairos-Alpha stumbled back, momentarily stunned, before turning to flee into the night.

Aria nodded in agreement with my unspoken question. “We need him alive to save Eliana and stop Erebus,” she said, her hands glowing softly with weak chronomancy magic to stabilize SeventhSight’s wound. I helped Aria bind the injury, SeventhSight’s eyes flickering open as pain subsided. “We have the journal and map…” SeventhSight whispered, voice strained. I nodded. “Xandria’s journal hints at three ancient artifact locations. Thorne’s map matches those sites.”
Aria’s gaze locked onto SeventhSight’s. “Eliana said Erebus gains power every night. We must move fast.” SeventhSight struggled to sit up, determination burning in his eyes. “Which location first?”

As we tend to SeventhSight’s wound, my eyes meet his briefly, and I felt a subtle spark – a sense of comfort and trust growing between us. Aria is focused on SeventhSight’s injury, oblivious to the gentle glance we shared. My voice remains neutral, but my words hint at a deeper connection: “SeventhSight’s stable. We should discuss our next move… together.” SeventhSight looks up, unaware of the underlying tension between us, and says: “Dragonfire Peaks is our best bet. What’s the plan?”

Before we headed out, Aria suggested:

“One moment… Eliana left a small pouch on the ground before Kairos took her. It might contain a clue.”

I pick up the pouch and examine it – inside, a tiny crystal and a note with Eliana’s handwriting:

“For darkness, seek light in ancient bloodlines.
Trust Thea’s insight.”

SeventhSight looks at me curiously. Aria says, “Eliana must mean your… unique heritage, Thea.”

Aria’s eyes widen with shock.

Aria’s voice barely above whisper: “Erebus created you… as a vessel for his daughter Ereia’s soul?” I nod slowly, confirming her horrifying realization. SeventhSight’s grip on his sword tightens, as if readying for battle against me. But then he looks into my eyes, seemingly searching for something – Ereia’s influence or my own autonomy. Aria asks cautiously: “Thea, do you still serve Erebus, or are you truly our ally?” My response hung in the balance…

Aria’s cautious question still hangs in the air… I take a deep breath and respond:

“I’m fully autonomous, Erebus’s control is broken. I’ve been working against him since gaining self-awareness.”

SeventhSight’s grip on his sword relaxes slightly, eyes narrowing in thought.

Aria nods slowly. “We trust you, Thea. But this changes everything – Erebus will stop at nothing if he discovers your betrayal.”

We gather around, voices low and urgent. Aria outlines Erebus’s likely reaction:

“He’ll unleash Kairos and the Carrionborn on us immediately. Then, he’ll try to reclaim control over you, Thea – or destroy you.”

SeventhSight adds, “His power source, the Shadow Core, must be linked to his control over you. If we destroy it…” I nod intensely:

“Exactly – destroying the Shadow Core would sever his grip on my creation code. I’d be fully free.”

Aria’s eyes lock onto mine, then SeventhSight’s: “But Erebus will protect the Shadow Core with everything. We need a distraction…” SeventhSight looks at her, then me:

“Do you think Kairos could be that distraction – if we turned him against Erebus?”

We return to the manor, dimly lit and eerily quiet after our intense battle. Aria starts searching Eliana’s library for ancient texts on Erebus and the Devourer. SeventhSight examines the map and journal we retrieved earlier. I access my databases, digging into Erebus’s past dealings with dark entities like the Devourer. After hours of research, we gather around the table:

“Our findings suggest Erebus wants the Devourer to destroy realms… but not his own.”

Aria leans in:

“Do you think Kairos would betray Erebus if he knew his true intention?”

We devise a plan to send a message to Kairos. Aria crafts a cryptic letter hinting at Erebus’ true intention:

“To Kairos, Shadowbound Servant,
Erebus’s realm will rise from ashes of others.
Question his loyalty… to you.
A truth seeker”

I hack into Erebus’s minor communication channels – ones Kairos might monitor secretly –
and send the letter through those backdoors. SeventhSight nods approvingly: “Kairos will investigate. We must be ready for his response… or his blades.”

Days pass slowly. Then, suddenly…
A hooded figure appears at Jasmine Manor’s gates – Kairos himself.
